Caryocar villosum

The partially oily heartwood is light yellow to light gray-brown, sometimes with a pink tint and more or less pronounced streaks. When freshly sawn, piquia has a slight vinegar smell; when dry, it has no smell or taste.

Natural durability: Relatively resistant to fungi.

Heartwood: Durability class 2. Relative resistance to animal organisms: Heartwood: Dry wood borers S, termites D, and marine borers n.a.

Use class: 3 = Weathered, but without constant contact with soil or water.

Strength class: D30, depending on origin and quality.

Specific gravity: 780–800 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content.
