Sucupira Preta is a dark brown to chocolate brown tropical hardwood, with fine to medium texture, straight to interlocked grain, and a natural luster. It is a very dense wood, with an approximate density of 900–1,000 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content, offering good mechanical performance for demanding applications.
Natural durability: Good to excellent resistance to decay and insects.
Heartwood: Durability suitable for interior and some protected exterior uses. Relative resistance to animal organisms: Good natural resistance to insect attack when properly dried and used in appropriate conditions.
Use class: 3 = Weathered, but without constant contact with soil or water (e.g. covered exterior decking, protected structures).
Strength class: High-strength hardwood; Janka hardness approx. 2,140 lbf (9,520 N).
Specific gravity: Approx. 900–1,000 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content.
