Mezilaurus itauba, Mezilaurus lindaviana

The heartwood of Itaúba is yellow‑greenish‑brown when fresh and quickly darkens to coffee to golden brown when exposed to air and light, with occasional spot- and stripe-shaped dark discolorations that disappear after darkening.
Itaúba feels slightly oily and has little luster; fresh wood exudes a mild aroma of cinnamon, camphor, and rosewood oil, which is less pronounced in dry wood

Natural durability: Relative resistance to fungi.

Heartwood: Durability class 1.
Relative resistance to animal organisms: Heartwood: Dry wood borers D, termites D, and marine borers D.

Use class: 4 = Permanent contact with soil or fresh water.

Strength class: D40, depending on origin and quality.

Bulk density: 790–820 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content.​
